6-Week Course
This course provides instruction and practice of meditation and 'mindfulness' techniques to help individuals develop their own skills in quieting the mind, focusing attention, calming the emotion and strengthening the mind/body connection. Inspired by and modeled after Jon Kabat-Zinn's ground-breaking 'Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction' work originally conducted at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, this course is appropriate for individuals in recovery, women in postpartum, care-takers and others who wish to focus on their own self-care while participating in a supportive and contemplative group. Members attend the group addressing a variety of issues including addiction recovery, life changes, grief associated with loss, and post-surgery rehabilitation. Goals include increased self-awareness, better mind/body connection, and a greater sense of self-empathy and compassion. Members are encouraged to work at their own pace toward personal goals, building a stronger and more confident sense of self.
Vipassana (also called Insight) Meditation is used as the vehicle and structure for self-awareness. Other techniques are drawn from Kabat-Zinn's inspiring work.
A screening is required to determine if the group is appropriate for you at this time.
Beginners to meditation practice are welcome.
